Alumni Attend Spring TIDE 2009
Devon Prep’s annual auction and dinner dance, Spring TIDE 2009, drew nearly 250 guests including quite a few alumni. Even the auctioneer was an alumnus, Terry McNichol, a member of the Class of 1977.
Devon Prep’s Parents Association sponsored this event which raised over $80,000. The proceeds will benefit Devon Prep’s Wish List which includes various capital improvements and a close circuit TV system.
This year’s theme was “Philly Rocks – Spring TIDE Rolls,” celebrating all things Philadelphia, from the Phillies and Eagles to soft pretzels, cheesesteaks and the sounds of the city.
The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction in Devon Prep’s beautifully decorated mansion, Calasanctius Hall. Each room in the Hall represented a noted area or event in Philadelphia. One room was designated as Packer Park; another was decorated to represent the Philadelphia Flower Show. The main hall had a full wall representing the Philadelphia Phillies.
The evening progressed with dinner, dancing and the live auction in the athletic facility where the decorating committee had constructed a boxing ring with a cut out of Rocky Balboa in it.
Among this year’s auction items were vacation homes, sporting event tickets, music and theater tickets (including Springsteen and Billy Joel concert tickets), golf packages, jewelry, restaurants, collectibles, college gear, theme baskets and Devon Prep memorabilia. In addition there was a raffle with three prizes, $10,000 in cash, $2,500 in cash, and an IBM Notebook.
